Information for Donors
Allegretto is the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Allegro, the Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster.
Allegretto’s mission is to give the youth of Lancaster County a joyful, high-quality orchestra experience, unlike any other orchestra experience available in the region.
*Why a chamber orchestra?
A chamber orchestra is about 35 players, as opposed to a full orchestra, which is usually 60 players or more. In this environment, each individual’s player’s contribution is clearly heard and very important.
*Who is the conductor?
Dr. Brian Norcross is the Artistic Director of both Allegretto and Allegro. His rehearsal philosophy of positive reinforcement and high energy has made him a favorite conductor among musicians in Lancaster County. His programming is known for creatively combining the great orchestral repertoire of the past with the highest quality new compositions of the future.
*Where does Allegretto perform?
The Barshinger Center for Musical Arts at Franklin & Marshall College is the performance home for Allegretto. This state of the art concert hall boasts a full size concert stage, combined with intimate seating and stunning acoustics.
*Why support Allegretto?
This is a unique offering that the most talented musicians in Lancaster County would not otherwise have. The budget for Allegretto is approximately $14,000 a year, covering the cost of staff, music and administration of the orchestra. The cost of running this ensemble is approximately $400.00 per student. Participating students do pay a $100.00 participation fee.
