The Fine Print

Attendance: For an ensemble such as Allegretto to function, the entire ensemble needs to be in attendance for all rehearsals.  Once a student has committed to performing in an Allegretto performance, their attendance at all rehearsals is expected.  Unexpected absences do occur from time to time and can include: illness, family emergency or unexpected conflicts with school ensembles.

In the event of an unexpected absence, the Artistic Director or ensemble manager must be contacted prior to the absence.  If the student has more than one absence from rehearsals in preparation for a concert, the Artistic Director can choose to excuse the student from participating in that concert.

Once accepted into Allegretto, students are asked to confirm the concerts in which they will participate.  At that time students are encouraged to contact their school directors to review their performance schedule for the upcoming year to identify potential conflicts.  Generally, students should be aware of these and other conflicts, and not enroll in concerts when they have more than one expected conflict with rehearsals.  If the student has one rehearsal conflict, they are encouraged to discuss this conflict with the Artistic Director prior to confirming their participation.

Core ensemble members are expected to be part of a minimum of two concerts.  Alternate players may be considered members of Allegretto, but perform in fewer than two concerts each year.

Concert Dress: Women: All black (either black slacks and top, black skirt and top, or black dress- below the knee); men: dark or black suit or black tux, white shirt and apppropriate black or dark tie.

Age Requirements: High School age only.

Expectations: Being a member of Allegretto is a privilege.   Members are expected to be good citizen musicians.  This can include full and appropriate participation in the musical life of their community, school or places of worship.  In addition, members of Allegretto are expected to be prepared for each rehearsal.   Members of Allegretto are expected to behave in rehearsal and performance in a manner that is appropriate for outstanding students.

Rehearsals and Concerts: All concerts will be held at the Barshinger Center at Franklin and Marshall college. Rehearsals will be held at Manheim Township High School, excepting September 26, October 3, February 13, February 20, May 1, and May 8. These rehearsals will be held at Barshinger.
